Clara Lawler

Dr Clara Lawler is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Frazer Institute, University of Queensland, with a BSc in Biochemistry from The University of Birmingham (UK) and a PhD in Viral Immunology from The University of Queensland. Dr Lawler’s research has focused on understanding host immunity through a viral lens. Viral encoded proteins are key modulators of innate and adaptive immunity, so understanding mechanisms of viral immune evasion allows a better understanding of immune response and cellular signalling pathways. This background alongside three years of experience working with human tissue in regional pathology has allowed Dr Lawler to transition to spatial biology and explore both tumour microenvironments and immune cell responses in the context of cancer, but also continuing her interest in the virus-host interface through HPV associated head and neck cancers and influenza infected human lung tissue. Dr Lawler has worked internationally across multi-disciplinary spaces, engaging scientists, clinicians and industry partners. She has over 12 years of experience in cellular molecular biology and immunology.
